According to the statistics of various faults in UPS maintenance work, it can be concluded that the faults caused by batteries of backup UPS power supply exceed 50% of the total faults。On-line UPS power supply, because of its reasonable circuit design, drive power component capacity to take a large margin, so the power circuit failure rate is very low, in contrast, the failure rate caused by the battery pack rises to more than 60%。Therefore, proper use and maintenance of batteries is one of the key factors to extend battery life and reduce the total failure rate of UPS power supply。
1. Reduce deep discharge
The life of a battery is closely related to the depth at which it is discharged. This is the depth at which the UPS power automatically shuts down because the battery voltage is too low. How does the actual process reduce the occurrence of deep discharge of the battery? When the UPS power supply is interrupted by the mains supply and the battery supplies power to the inverter, most UPS power supplies will ring a periodic alarm with a gap of about 4s to inform users that the battery is providing energy,If the alarm sound becomes rapid, it indicates that the power supply is in deep discharge. Emergency treatment should be performed immediately and the UPS power supply should be shut down.
2. Take advantage of peak power supply charging
To prevent premature battery damage due to long-term undercharging, make full use of peak power supply (such as late at night) to charge the battery to ensure that the battery has enough charging time after each discharge。Generally, it takes at least 10 to 12 hours to charge a battery to 90% of its rated capacity after it is deeply discharged
3. Ensure the ambient temperature of the power supply
The available capacity of a battery is closely related to the ambient temperature. Generally, the best ambient temperature of the battery is room temperature of 20℃-25℃. When the temperature is above 25℃, the life of the battery is reduced by half every time the temperature rises by 10℃. Above 40℃ there is a risk of thermal runaway, visible temperature influence can not be ignored。
4. The battery is monitored online for 24 hours
For a 12V cell battery, if the terminal voltage difference between batteries exceeds 0.4V or the internal resistance exceeds 80 Mω, you need to balance the batteries to restore the internal resistance and eliminate the terminal voltage imbalance。
The existing battery monitoring system can effectively monitor individual batteries, prolong the battery string service life, reduce the total UPS failure rate, and reduce the probability of power supply accidents。
Relat online battery monitoring products can monitor the battery voltage, internal resistance, temperature, current, battery leakage, battery balance, battery thermal runaway and other functions, effectively guaranteeing the safe operation of UPS power systems in various industries.
